Pitot tube flow meters

Pitot tube flow meters are a flow measurement instrument used to measure the velocity of a fluid, particularly liquids. This instrument is based on the principle of dynamic pressure, which is the pressure generated by the velocity of a moving fluid.

The Pitot tube flow meter consists of an L-shaped tube, with one arm facing in the direction of the fluid flow and the other arm facing upward and open to the air. When the fluid flows through the Pitot tube, the fluid’s velocity increases in the arm facing the flow direction, creating a dynamic pressure. At the same time, the pressure in the upward-facing arm remains constant. The pressure difference between the two arms of the Pitot tube is then used to calculate the fluid’s velocity.

The advantages of Pitot tube flow meters are their simplicity, low maintenance requirements, and the ability to measure fluid velocity in real-time. Additionally, these instruments can be used to measure the flow of fluids in large pipes.
