Ultrasonic flow meters
Ultrasonic flow meters are a flow measurement instrument used to measure the flow of liquids and gases using high-frequency sound waves. These instruments are based on the principle of the difference in sound velocity in one fluid compared to another.
There are two types of ultrasonic flow meters: transit-time ultrasonic flow meters and Doppler ultrasonic flow meters.
Transit-time ultrasonic flow meters use two transducers placed on opposite sides of a flow tube, one of which sends a high-frequency signal through the fluid, and the other detects the signal. The fluid’s velocity can be calculated from the time difference between sending the signal and detecting it.
Doppler ultrasonic flow meters use a single transducer that sends high-frequency sound waves into the fluid and detects the sound waves reflected by moving objects within the fluid. The frequency of the reflected sound waves is measured and used to calculate the fluid’s velocity.
